Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo Sets for Auditions

The Baytown Little Theater announces auditions for the upcoming comedy by playwright Ken Ludwig, Moon Over Buffalo, September 30 and October 1 at 7:00 PM at the theater, 4328 Hugh Echols Blvd.

Moon Over Buffalo is a raucous farce about a dysfunctional theater troupe performing at the Erlander Theatre in Buffalo, New York, in 1953. The diva lead actress, Charlotte Hay, is barely tolerant of her philandering semi-alcoholic husband, George, and mishaps and confusions arise for the company when presented the opportunity of famed film director Frank Capra attending a performance to consider the two for a starring roles in his next movie. Their temperamental daughter Rosalind splits time between fiancé Howard and ex-fiancé Paul, who works as the company’s stage manager. Charlotte’s nearly-deaf mother, Ethel, and Richard, a would-be suitor for Charlotte, make their contributions to the mayhem as Eileen, a young actress in the company, reveals her pregnancy to all. The hopeful actors sprint through the tangle of confusion to produce a woefully misbegotten mixture of two different plays in their hoped-for presentation piece, and in the play’s climactic scene, manage to set everything right by still more series of coincidences and mishaps. Overall, Moon Over Buffalo is a fast-paced and energetic night of entertainment.

Roles to be cast include George and Charlotte Hay, mother Ethel, daughter Rosalind, fiancé Howard, ex-fiancé Paul, actress Eileen, and Charlotte’s suitor, Richard. For more information, email info@baytown.littletheater.org, or call 281.424.7617.

Urinetown Closes with Standing Ovations

If you missed the 2012 summer musical, Urinetown, directed by John Morales, you missed an edgy modern production with many talented people singing and dancing their hearts out to happy music with less than happy lyrics. Set in a fictional dank, dark place the cast members of Urinetown made audience members forget they were watching a story about the privilege to pee. As unappealing as the title appeared, this production was tastefully done. Ryan Martin as Office Lockstock narrated and kept onlookers involved and up to speed with the story line. Little Sally portrayed by cute young Mica Box was courageous as she hobbled on stage aided by crutches with a very real broken foot. Bravos! to choreographer, Jenny Johnson, and music director, Johnny Nichols, for their superb creative crafting of the musical numbers. Many thanks go out to all who worked both on and behind stage to make this production a success.

Don’t miss another of the remaining shows in the BLT season. Coming next is To Kill a Mockingbird, running September 28 through October 14. Next comes a special production of A. R. Gurney’s Love Letters, the poignant play about a tender correspondence over many years between two people, featuring special guest actors Delene and Weston Cotten. Tickets will go on sale for the October 19 & 21 performances on September 24. And watch for more information coming soon on Moon Over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig, coming in November.
