BLT Presents Revamped Youth Theater Program; Announces New Facilitator Rick Schultz

Rick Schultz headshot 1016113Born in Galveston, TX and raised on a farm in Lufkin, Rick Schultz earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from East Texas Baptist College, continuing on to complete his Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin University in Secondary Education/Mid-Management.

While at ETBC Rick was a member of the A Cappella Choir and enjoyed the opportunity to tour Europe performing in college productions of My Fair Lady, Camelot, and South Pacific.  Rick returned to Eastern Europe for 9 years teaching English at university level.  Locally, Rick has directed many summer theater children’s workshops and directed productions of Snow White, Jungle Book, Robin Hood and Cinderella. 

Currently, he is employed with Goose Creek CISD at Gentry Junior School teaching 6th grade Language Arts.  Rick is honored to have been voted Teacher of the Year while at Carver Elementary School.

The revamped youth theater program offers participants a series of 6 classes where they will learn Theater Terminology, Music, Dance, Movement, Blocking, Lighting, Sound, Artistic Design, and Character Development.  Program is open to Beginners, Intermediate, and Experienced participants.  Due to limited space at the BLT theater, classes will be held at Gentry Junior School, Archer Road.

Children’s age group is for 2nd thru 6th grade meeting from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon on Saturdays, Nov 9, Dec 14, Jan 11, Feb 8, Mar 8 and Apr 5.

Youth age group is for 7th thru 12th grade meeting from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Saturdays, Nov 16, Dec 14, Jan 18, Feb 15, Mar 8, Apr 12.

Program builds into youth starring in a full on-stage performance of Little Mermaid, Jr.  on May 30 and 31, 2014 AND competing in the statewide TNT Youth Conference in Boerne, TX in June 2014.

Registration forms will be available at the first session.  Fee is $60 per child.  (The TNT Conference attendance is not included in the $60)
